Mail Uses
This is to inform mail users of the government electronic
mailing system of the basic facilities offered.
Logging
into the SVG Government mail server
This
stage assumes that the user have been approved an email account through his or
her respective department and has therefore been informed by the Ministry of
telecommunications that the there account has been created.
All new user accounts that are created will be given the default password
trial. EACH USER IS EXPECTED TO
CHANGE THIS PASSWORD ON FIRST LOGIN. Below
are the steps required to log into the server.
1.
Open the browser, whether you are using Internet Explorer or Netscape or
whatever browser of your choice. This
document will use Internet Explorer for demonstrations.
2.
Type the following URL into
the browser URL window denoted with the keyword Address, https://mail.gov.vc:32003/mail.
This URL ensures you the user a secure connection with the Mail server housed by
the government. If however you are
logging onto the server from inside the government intranet the URL you use will
be https://192.168.1.5:32003/mail.
The
following page will be presented to you.

In the user name field enter your user name given to you from the
Ministry of Telecommunications. The
user name convention used followed the configuration of the first letter in the
persons first name concatenated with their surnames. This is the given the extension of the government department
you are associated with e.g. for the Ministry of Telecommunications, with
extension “.telecom,” the user, “John Public,” will be given the user
name jpublic.telecom@mail.gov.vc
. However, the user accessing his
or her mail when typing the user name only needs to enter the name segment and
the extension. For example, the
user above would enter jpublic.telecom. Enter
the password and select the “Encrypted login”, then click login.
The password used for all accounts at creation is “trial”
please change your password as soon as you log on.
Note
- Do not use “fast logon” because another person other than yourself can use
that feature to access your mail.
The following page should be returned.
This indicates you are successfully logged into your email account.
Changing
your password and setting your personal information
1.
From the page presented above select the setting tab, you will be
presented with drop down list. From
this drop down list select the key labeled Accounts.
2.
From the Accounts screen you will be allowed to change your password as
well as any personal information that might have been accidentally entered about
you or that might have been omitted.
3.
Select the modify button and you will now be presented with the option to
modify your password follow the instruction and change your password, then
select the “Save Changes” button. when
The Global Address Book
In
the Global Address Book you will be able to search for and add emails of various
people in the government service to your emails.

From the main screen
of the Mail Server select the option tab to the top labeled Address Book
click on the arrow and then select the option Global Address Book.

The Global Address
Book will appear; from here you can now select a category to view the mail
users for each department of the Government Service.
The user can also select the Private Address Book field to create
their own private address book.
